For The Love of Samplers

I keep telling myself that I am going to continually update this blog but weeks go by and I continue to neglect it.  I get busy with day to day stuff or I am stitching on a new design or charting something and before I know the day is gone.

I am so happy to see so many reproduction samplers reproduced lately.  They are my favorites and there are some beauties out there, in fact, I could not resist purchasing a couple myself.  When I will have time to stitch them is a mystery but at least I have them when I'm ready.

Over the years I have purchased several antique samplers and have a small collection.  About 10 years ago I reproduced Ann Merchant, and I think it is still out there in some shops.  Merchant was my mother's maiden name and so I knew Ann had to be a relative since the sampler was found in the area where the Merchant Family lived in the 1800's.  In fact, she turned out to be a distant cousin.  The sampler was in bad shape when I rescued it but I have since had it put in a archival frame and hung it on my wall next to the reproduced Ann Merchant.

Over the last few months, I have been working on another...Ann Hughes.  I guess Ann was a very popular name.  Poor Ann's sampler is also on need of some restoration, so since I have finished charting her, she will be re-framed and enjoyed for many years to come.  I have just  few more stitches to go and her reproduction will be complete.  The antique Ann Hughes was a little tricky to chart...wherever she was stored all these years, it left her so dirty and faded it was very hard to tell what colors in which she had been stitched.  Even the back was very faded but I was able to see some hues of pink, green, brown, blue and red.  So I reproduced it as best as I could...I think Ann would be happy.  Here's a little peek.
Ann Hughes
I am hoping to get her to the framers later this week and then I will release the chart in the next few weeks.

I have now begun another reproduction from my collection...Mary Pilgrim.  I have charted little motifs from her but she will now get fully reproduced.  She is taking more time because she has some specialty stitches and was stitched on 52 count linen with silk thread.  I can only chart a few motifs a day...I have to wear my readers, and a magnifying glass with my Ott desk lamp.

Mary Pilgrim

It's going to be awhile before she is reproduced!

So this is how it all began...samplers!  I learned to cross stitch because I loved samplers and I will enjoy stitching every minute of Mary Pilgrim.

No Matter How Long the Winter, Spring is Sure To Come!

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope the Christmas season brought you joy and happiness and time spent with family and friends.  I also hope you had a little time to stitch.  I tried to get a little in everyday and saved some time to watch my favorite flosstube videos.  Here are some of my favorites...although I keep finding more to watch every week.

I love Shirl at Tranquil Stitches. She is from West Virginia.  I was born in West Virginia and lived there until I was 16.  I have lived in Texas for over 40 years! Well, that was hard to write! Anyway, I think I'm still a West Virginia girl at heart and Shirl is so sweet and gracious. And of course Kitten Stitcher...down to earth and I already feel like I know her and she loves cats.  I love cats...and dogs. She is sweet and funny.  I love Priscilla and Chelsea, especially because they are a mother/daughter team.  It is just great that they have the same love of stitching and like spending time together! The Kindred Stitcher...love her projects and Farm Girl and I could go on and on.  Such inspiration!

Well here is my new design so you can think about Spring, if it is still cold and dreary where you live.
No Matter How Long The Winter, Spring Is Sure To Come

(This is what the drum looks like before it is finished.)
Both pieces were stitched on R & R Reproductions Weathered Shingles.  It is a light gray linen.
Stitched with Classic Colorworks and Gentle Arts Sampler Threads
I used Vonna Pfieffer's tutorial to put together my drum.
The sampler on the right is attached to a square paper mache box (7 x 7).

"Winter Time"

"Winter Time"

Hoping Everyone had a very Merry Christmas!  My new design "Winter Time" is now available at your LNS or online store.

I finished this design using a frame that I purchased at Hobby Lobby..it was 50% off and was $20.  It has three nice metal clips, it is metal all the way around and has a wooden inside.  It is very sturdy...that's great because I am going to change it up for every season.  I added the ribbon on the top and bottom.  It is hot glued on and I should be able to take it off the metal easily when I decorate it for Spring!

I finished my design as a flat piece, added some Lady Dot Creates "Vintage" chenille and used a coordinating piece of fabric on the back.  It easily fits between the two clips on and then on the right side I added my calendar.

2018 was a great year for Abby Rose Designs!  Thank you to all who have purchased my designs!  I have some new things that I am working on for 2019 and will try to add some "sneak peaks".  Thanks again!   Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!

New Design...Blessing be Upon This House

Good Afternoon Everyone! I wanted to show you my new design, Blessings Be Upon This House.  It was stitched on 28 count Platinum Linen.  It was a fun stitch and came together quickly.

I have been watching a lot of You Tube Videos lately on different crafty things.   I am always so amazed at the talent and great projects out there.  I got completely into coffee filter wreaths which are so beautiful.... you can see a little bit of mine in the photo behind the frame.  I will take a picture when I hang it.  It was so easy.  I did burn my fingers many, many times with the glue gun but I survived.

And my favorite floss tubes are:  Flannel Jammies Farm, Kitten Stitcher and Priscilla and Chelsea.  I said I wasn't going to get addicted to these things...but happily I am.

Hope you have a great week!

New Patriotic Series~~Long May She Wave

Good Morning Everyone!
I wanted to show you my new series, " Long May She Wave" !  I have been working on this since the beginning of the year trying to get it ready for you to stitch and finish to display during July 4th.

This is a peek of all of the parts.  It will be released in 4 parts beginning with the "Long May She Wave" pillow and little hanging Flag pin keep.  Part One of the series was released on Friday and your local needlework should have it in a day or two.

Part Two will be released in May. It is the 1776 box you see in the carrier.  More to come on it later.
Part Three includes another pillow, "In God We Trust" also with a little bonus pattern.
And finally Part 4 will be the American The Beautiful Game board displayed at the right in the photo.

The carrier for this series was purchased at Hobby Lobby.  It was an unfinished piece and cost about $10.  I gave it a good sanding and then applied 2 coats of America Paint in Oyster Beige.  I then stencils the stars on the front and back with Americana Deep Blue Paint then Antiquing gel in Espresso to age it.  I applied more around the edges and handle to give it well used look.  It was a quick, easy and fun little project and came out looking great.

Here is a closer view of "Long May She Wave" Part One.

All parts of this series were stitched on 32 count Summer Khaki Linen, and I used all Gentle Arts Sampler Threads.

I hope you have a great week!

Happy Spring!

Hoping Everyone is starting to get some days of warmer weather!  Spring has Sprung as they say...here is South Texas.  Yesterday is was in the low 90's and I think we are just about done with cold fronts.  Come September/October after a long hot summer I will be longing for cool weather again.

Today, I wanted to show you my new design and tell you about some other designs that will be coming soon.

Hopefully this one will be releasing on Friday.  It is called "Spring Is Here".  Just a fun little stitch on
32 count Pearled Barley using GAST and WDW threads.

What's next?  I thought it would be fun to do a patriotic themed series.  So I have designed 4 projects that you will be able to put together in a lovely display.  I think you will love how I have chosen to display them.

I am hoping to have a April 1st release on the first project. They will be released April-June so you will have your project complete to display on July 4th.

Please check back as I will be giving sneak peeks of the entire project over the next few weeks.
And..almost forgot to tell you.  I am planning some giveaways during the releases of these projects.

And...thank you to all who ordered Pineapple Sewing Boxes.  I hope you loved them!  I thought I would never finish painting boxes.  It was a happy problem to have... my next love after stitching is painting!   There just might be another one coming down the lane...  maybe around May!  hint hint!

Hope you have a great day...keep stitching!

Welcome Spring?

Hi Everyone!
My latest is called "Welcome Spring"!  I know a lot of my dear friends are still dealing with snow and cold weather but I thought this design might help a little until Spring officially arrives.  It will go out to distributors this week so you should be able to get it very soon.

I finished them as ornaments in an egg shape but you could stitch as little pillows if you'd like.
You will get three designs.  The middle design is a surprise...hint, you will get to practice some specialty stitches.  Not hard though.  I made a pink box for my Easter eggs and since I don't have an ornament tree, I put my stitched egg in there also.

I think I am way behind on updating this blog...so I will add my other designs which have already been released in 2018.

This is Primitive Hearts, a fun and easy stitch!
And "Friends Gather Here".

In January I was "up to my ears" in painted boxes. Thank you to all the shops who ordered!  I had a great time working on them. I love to paint and kind of experimented with stenciling for a while before I was ready to release my kit.  Had to get the technique down.  It was too cold to go out so painting boxes kept me busy!  Thank you for all the orders... I will do another one soon. I think I have 5 left..so if you didn't get one, let me know.

Update on the Flower Gatherer

Well... my naughty Flower Gatherer is all correct now!  She was a handful...after she got her corrections made she didn't want her  picture taken.  I guess she was as embarrassed as I am...

It will only effect you if your charts were mailed out Friday.  I sure am sorry this happened and will happily make it right.

Where Has The Summer Gone?

I can't believe it has been a whole month since my last post! Where has the summer gone? It seems like it was just spring and now August is already half way gone.  I have been busy though and have failed to add my latest designs to this blog.

Since my little Christmas in July Trio, I have added my "Read Me A Story" design.  I found this verse somewhere....wish I could remember where.  When I see or hear a sweet verse I write it in a little notebook I keep to use later.  Some get used right away some stay in the little notebook for a while until some inspiration hits me.

I chose these colors so it could go into any child's bedroom, boy or girl.  You could change the colors to fit your needs...or even turn it into a wall hanging.  Grandmas, this is a good stitch for your favorite grandchildren...of course they are all favorite grandchildren.

Coming soon...they release to the distibutors next friday... my mini sampler stocking.  It is small and will be a nice addition to your ornament collection.

I left the toe area open so you could add initials or the year.  I also added the stocking template to the design pattern.  It was a lesson in patience for me to get my design inside of my stocking template but after several tweaks I finally got it balanced and a template that resembled a stocking! It is a flat finish and I used mini pom pom trim by Lady Dot Creates.

Finally to say so long to summer...I'm working on harvest and Christmas now, "The Flower Gatherer" is my final for this season.

I just love this saying...I think it is so true and wanted to use it on something. So my pretty little flower gathering lady got it.

As you know I have been one of the designers for Inspired Sampler Club from the Inspired Needle.  My second design called "Thankful Hearts" will be released soon.  I believe it is scheduled for an end of August release.  It was designed with the Harvest season in mind.  If you are interested in joining the club, contact Cathy at the Inspired Needle for more information.  You can still join and I think you can get all the club projects.  I will let Cathy release a photo first but will be back with more details later....

One last thing for shop owners... Norden Crafts is running a 10% off sale on all Abby Rose Designs patterns that they have already stocked.  Supplies are limited and only apply what is in their inventory.  There are quite a few of early Abby Rose Designs patterns available.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
